How it all Started....It wasn't easy.

How it all Started....It wasn't easy.

In an instant—everything changed.

It was in our small, dim, two bedroom apartment, talking to my husband, when it dawned on me. This wasn’t an option, it was a calling. An unshakable feeling down to the very last cell in my body that I had to share my passion for fashion and style with the world. I had no idea, in that moment, that my life would change forever. Or even more shockingly, just how much it would change…

I was sitting in the dining room/office staring at my laptop while jay was at work. I couldn't help but feel like I needed to find something to contribute to my family. I was a stay at home mom of 2 boys under 2. What could I do? What do I love? In that moment an article popped up on my facebook feed about "Reselling". That was the moment. I immediately got my reseller's license , business permit , designed a basic logo and BOOM! Sweetpea Culture was born.

I started out by going through my own closet. I have always gotten positive feedback on my style, makeup (during my ancient youtube days) and decor. I have always been a DIY kind of girl. Yes, this was definitely it. I listed as many things as I could on ebay, poshmark and offer up. OMG guys I could not believe my eyes when I got sale after sale. Within a month I had made my first $500. It may not seem like a lot but to me it was everything! It meant people liked what I had and I had something here worth it!

For the next four months I kept selling on different platforms. My only problem was I was really tired of them taking a percentage of each sale. Some sites even took 20%! If I sold a top for $15 that means I would only take home about $10-11 at the end of the day.

I took a small $1500 investment and decided I was all in. I designed a website with my sweet husband that did everything from scratch. He learned the tech side from the ground up. We were committed. I was in charge of the styling , social media, customer service , shipping and he worked behind the scenes on his off time.

It was not easy. There were days I thought I am not good enough. No one likes our store. Maybe this isn't for me. But let me tell you , if it was easy everyone would do it! I had to remind myself of the reasons why I started this in the first place. If they can do it , WHY CAN'T I? I CAN!

We are now going on 2 years and I finally feel like we have went over that hump and are starting to grow! We had to learn how to advertise, how to be relevant, how to EVERYTHING! We would be nothing without our customers. This industry is difficult but I would do it all over if I had the opportunity. The only difference is I would research a lot more. The info is out there. Don't just trust the word of joe schmoe. Thank you to all our supporters that have been here since day 1!!! We love you all! Until next time!!!

xoxo,
Beth
